The families of Pejman Fatehi, Mohsen Mazloum, Mohammad Faramarzi, and Vafa Azarbar, four Kurdish political prisoners in Iran, were summoned to Evin Prison on Saturday, January 27, 2024, a step that tragically indicates the possibility of an imminent execution. These men, accused and sentenced to death under highly questionable and inhumane circumstances, are now facing immediate mortal danger.
Following the confirmation of their sentences by the Iranian Supreme Court, these prisoners, members of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, find themselves in a desperate situation. They have been detained without a fair trial, subjected to forced confessions under torture, and deprived of any contact with their families or a lawyer for the majority of their detention.
In this context of an acute human rights crisis, the Zagros Human Rights Centre (NGO with consultative status with the ECOSOC), Hana Human Rights Organisation, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kurdistan Human Rights Reporters Center, Kurdistan Tribunal, and Iranian Kurdistan Human Rights Center “ChawNews” issue an urgent appeal to the international community. We call on human rights organisations, governments, and individuals around the world to mobilize immediately to pressure the Iranian authorities to halt these executions.
We urge immediate action to draw international attention to this case, to save the lives of these men, and to challenge the judicial procedures that have led them to this critical situation. Their lives should not be sacrificed due to a judicial system that violates international human rights standards.
We call for global solidarity to support these families during this critical period and to defend the right to life and a fair trial. This is not only a matter of saving four lives, but also of defending the principles of justice and humanity that are at the heart of our global community.
