Oral statement by the Zagros Human Rights Center
By : Mrs. Anja Elisabeth OKSALAMPI

Agenda Item 5: General debate on human rights bodies and mechanisms.
March 21, 2024

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Kurdish, Baloch, Turko-Azari, Arab minorities, as well as religious minorities in Iran, endure systematic violations of their fundamental rights. Reports from the Independent Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFMI) and the Special Rapporteur have shed light on the extent of these atrocities. Arbitrary arrests, prolonged detention without trial, torture, and even summary executions are commonplace for these marginalized communities.
The FFMI report has thoroughly documented these violations, highlighting the urgency of concerted international action. It is imperative for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities towards these oppressed minorities. The severity of the violations requires regular monitoring by the international community. Therefore, we urge this assembly to renew the mandates of the Special Rapporteur and the FFMI.
We also call on the Iranian authorities to respect international human rights standards, to end systematic repression, and to ensure equality of rights for all components of Iranian society, regardless of their ethnic origin or religious belief.

Thank you.
